Free Diving
One theory that exists is that we all came from the water, from simple proteins, to single celled animals, to plankton,
fish with gills, and eventually terrestrial based mammals. Whether you subscribe to this theory or not, it is fact that we all
came from a liquid environment when we were born. Our bodies have a remarkable ability to tap into this aquatic background and
bring our mammalian diving reflexes to the forefront. From thousands of years ago, history has recorded free divers in pearl diving,
military operations, fishermen, and eventually into the sport of free diving, as it exists today. Through Free Dive courses offered
by IANTD, divers can expand their capabilities, comfort and safety in the water! There are literally millions of snorkelers today
that are searching the oceans and seas from the surface. Many of the pelagic marine interaction environments such as diving with
whales, dolphins, manatees and the like are most enjoyable while free diving. Photography and video opportunities are expanded with
breath-hold diving versus being on scuba. Many locations have avid spear fishing, conch, lobster, and abalone fishing that is all
done without tanks, simply by breath-hold diving. Free diving not only supports the livelihoods and recreation of many people, but
also offers a competitive element to the sport, through tournaments, local competitions, and world record events.

Open Water Diver
This program is the student's gateway into the world of SCUBA. Dive physics and physiology are explained and demonstrated
along with mastery of basic scuba skills. Upon completion of the program students will have the confidence and competence to scuba
dive to a maximum depth of 60 feet.

Advanced Open Water Diver
This program helps develop open water divers to feel comfortable undertaking various types of scuba diving not practiced in the
open water program. Drift, wreck, deep, night, navigation, game collection, search and rescue are just a few of the potential scuba
experiences practiced during the advanced open water program.

Nitrox Diver
This program provides recreational divers a safer breathing medium for enjoying dives in 40 fsw (12 msw) to 130 fsw (39 msw)
depth range. The diver may elect to dive the mix on EANx tables or conservatively using their dive computers or air tables with an
added diver safety margin. The IANTD Nitrox Diver certification is adaptable to being taught as a single program or by combining it
with a variety of advanced or specialty diver courses.

Deep Diver
This program has been developed to provide responsible training to divers who plan to dive to 130 fsw (39 msw) on air. The IANTD
Deep Air Diver program trains divers in skills, performance, theory and planning of deep dives. This program remains within the
commonly practiced depth of 130 fsw (39 msw). It is the first sanctioned program to provide proper international training in safe
deep diving skills and performance. It is recommended that this program be taught in conjunction with the IANTD EANx Diver program.

Advanced Nitrox Diver
This program is designed to extend the divers knowledge with O2 mixes of 22 to 40% and up to 50% for decompression. It further
develops diving skills and provides a greater understanding of the Nitrox diving concept.

Wreck Diver
This program is designed to build confidence in the student's ability to safely dive shipwrecks under various conditions. Upon
completion the diver will be comfortable using a wreck reel for navigation as well as basic penetration. Students will also become
proficient using a lift bag and reel to assist with ascent.

Cavern Diving
This program is a basic introduction to the elaborate world of cavern and cave diving. Divers will experience the thrill of
entering a cavern while never leaving the reassuring presence of sunlight.

Rescue Diver
This program will instill confidence in the diver responsible enough to understand and take action should an emergency situation
occur. This course will review basic rescue practices covered in open water and advanced open water as well as more elaborate rescue
procedures and skills.

Dive Master
This program is designed to provide responsible training for those persons wishing to supervise standard IANTD divers, including
Nitrox Divers, Advanced Nitrox Divers and Deep Air Divers. IANTD Nitrox Divemasters may supervise and assist in all open water IANTD
diver programs but cannot conduct training exercises unless under the direction of a qualified IANTD instructor.
